Dear Good Shepherd,
Forget the insults. Remember the compliments. Let go the offense. Embrace the kindness. Who we are is only partly a result of our experiences. The other part is what we decide to do with them. Anger and bitterness are sometimes understandable. But they are never inevitable.

Dear Good Shepherd,

Scripture - Matthew 28: 1-10

After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And suddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him. This is my message for you.” So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

Prayer

Glory to you, O God: on this day you won victory over death, raising Jesus from the grave and giving us eternal life.

Glory to you, O Christ: for us and for our salvation you overcame death and opened the gate to everlasting life.

Glory to you, O Holy Spirit: you lead us into truth.

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Prayer
O God, the strength of the weak and the comfort of sufferers, mercifully hear our prayers and grant to you those we name in our heart… help those with sickness be turned into health and our sorrow into joy; through Jesus Christ. Amen.
Peace be with You,
Pastor Dan

Dear Good Shepherd,

Scripture - Psalm 25: 4-7

Make me to know your ways, O Lord;

    teach me your paths.

Lead me in your truth, and teach me,

    for you are the God of my salvation;

    for you I wait all day long.

Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love,

    for they have been from of old.

Prayer

Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions;

    according to your steadfast love remember me,

    for your goodness’ sake, O Lord!

Peace be with You,

Pastor Dan

Dear Good Shepherd,
Scripture - Psalm 130: 5-8
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
    and in his word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord
    more than those who watch for the morning,
    more than those who watch for the morning.
O Israel, hope in the Lord!
    For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
    and with him is great power to redeem.
It is he who will redeem Israel
    from all its iniquities.
Prayer
God of life, there are days when the burdens we carry are heavy and weigh us down, when the road seems dreary and endless, the skies threatening, when our lives have no music in them, and our hearts are lonely, and our souls have lost courage. Flood the path with light, turn our eyes where the skies of full of promise; tune our hearts to brave music; give us a sense of community and friendship, and so quicken our spirits and allow us to encourage the souls of all who journey with us on the road of life, to your honor and glory. Amen.
Peace be with You,

Dear Good Shepherd,
Scripture - John 13:34, 35
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
“By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Prayer
God of unconditional love, we know that the source of this great love, is Your love.  Open our hearts during this very stressful time to keep You close.  Help us to become more effective as your disciples, in all of our ongoing relationships.

Dear Good Shepherd,

Scripture - Ephesians 5:8-10

For once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Live as children of light—for the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true. Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord.

Prayer

Dear God, you set us in families, where we learn to live together in charity and truth. Strengthen frayed bonds of love. Where separation threatens, move in with forgiveness and understanding. Melt hard hearts and free mixed minds, break the hold of stubborn pride. Lay claim on us, so we can be restored in the healing love of Christ. Amen.

Peace be with You,

Pastor Dan

Scripture - Psalm 139: 13-18
For it was you who formed my inward parts;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
 Praise you, for I am reverently and wonderfully made.
    Wonderful are your works;
that I know very well.
 My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
    intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes beheld my unformed substance.
In your book were written
    all the days that were formed for me,
    when none of them as yet existed.
How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God!
    How vast is the sum of them!
I try to count them—they are more than the sand;
    I come to the end—I am still with you.
Prayer
Dear God, grant that those who live alone may not be lonely in their solitude, but may find fulfillment in loving you and their neighbors. I pray that I can be a source of comfort and support to those who are sheltered at home without companionship. I pray I can be a messenger of your love. In Christ, Amen

Dear Good Shepherd,
Scripture - Psalm 95: 1-5
O come, let us sing to the Lord;
    let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
    let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is a great God,
    and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
    the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
    and the dry land, which his hands have formed.
Prayer
Dear God, from whom we receive our life, you have blessed us with the joy and care of children. As we raise them up, give us calm strength and gentle wisdom, that we may teach them to love whatever is just and true and good, following the example in Jesus. Amen

Dear Good Shepherd,
Scripture - Romans 1: 11-12
For I am longing to see you so that I may share with you some spiritual gift to strengthen you—or rather so that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.
Prayer
Dear God, Guard the laughter of children. Bring them safely through injury and illness, so they may live the promises you give. Do not let us be so preoccupied with our purposes that we fail to hear their voices, or pay attention to their special vision of the truth; but keep us with them, ready to listen and to love, even as in Jesus Christ you have loved us, your grown-up children.

Scripture - Proverbs 27: 10
Do not forsake your friend or the friend of your parent;
    do not go to the house of your kindred in the day of your calamity.
Better is a neighbor who is nearby than kindred who are far away.
Prayer
God of the covenant; you give love without return, lavish blessings without looking for gain. Watch over the way of business, so that those who buy, sell or lend, may live justly and show acts of mercy and walk in your ways. May profits be fair, and contracts kept. In our dealings with each other may we display true charity; through Christ Jesus who has loved us with mercy. Amen.

Dear Good Shepherd,
Scripture - Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
Prayer
God of creation, in your will our lives are lived, and by your truth wisdom is found. We pray for all the children, young adults, teachers, administrators and parents who are having to adjust to shelter in place as a result of the coronavirus. We pray that schools will continue, and students can thrive. Prayers for parents who now find themselves as home teachers and are learning how to teach. We pray for solidarity with our neighbors that is grounded in the love of Christ. Amen.

Dear Good Shepherd,
Scripture - Romans 5:1-5
Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace
with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained
access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of
sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our
sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance
produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not
disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts
through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
Prayer
Loving God we turn to you during this time of shelter in place and are
trying to cope and adjust with information that changes each hour. We
are assured in scripture that “suffering produces endurance, endurance
produces character, and character produces hope and hope does not
disappoint us.” We pray that you renew the ties of mutual kindness and
respect with our fellow brothers and sisters. Allow each of us go forth
and shine the light of Christ in ways that glorify your name. Amen

Prayer
God our creator, by our holy prophet you taught your ancient people to seek the well-being of the cities in which they lived. We praise our neighborhood to your care, that it might be kept free from social strife and unrest. Give us strength of purpose and care for others, that we may create here a community of justice and peace where your will may be done; in the name of Jesus Christ, your son. Amen.

Dear Good Shepherd,

We are in an unprecedented time and let us be assured of God’s love and healing in our world.

Scripture - Mark 12: 30-31
you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’  The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Prayer
God of ages, in your sight nations rise and fall, and pass through times of peril. Now when our land is troubled, be near to guide us with wisdom and compassion. May leaders be led by your vision; may they search your will and see it clearly. If we have turned from your way, help us to reverse our ways and seek your grace. Give us your light and your truth to guide us; through your son Jesus Christ, Amen.

Peace be with You,
Pastor Dan
